Nukak

Nukak is a brand born in Barcelona in late 2016, founded by Patricio Abreu—creator of Vaho in 2001—and Pedro Ribosa, a professional from the audiovisual world. The brand's name is inspired by the last nomadic tribe living in the Colombian jungle, the Nukak Maku, and is defined by giving a second life to discarded materials. Nukak is a return to origins. The idea of creating bags and accessories from repurposed materials emerged from the founding of a small multidisciplinary design studio. Through research and reuse of countless discarded materials, several products took shape as accessories and furniture. Above all, the standout pieces were bags made from PVC advertising banners. Since then, we’ve repurposed campaigns that once hung from lampposts in cities like Barcelona and Madrid, among other materials. No two bags are alike—each has a unique graphic design. We specialize in giving discarded materials a second chance. The renewed life of our products stems from the research and development we conduct on all kinds of reclaimed materials. We analyze their qualities and characteristics to adapt them to the best possible form and function. It’s thanks to this passion-driven work that Nukak will continue to surprise in the future with new products and materials. The entire production process is artisanal and handmade in Barcelona. Our work begins when objects are stripped of their original purpose and their life cycle is deemed complete. These materials are collected and stored—arriving dirty and wrinkled at our warehouse—where their resurrection begins. Before becoming raw material for crafting, they undergo a preliminary process where we sort them by characteristics, curate their graphics, and clean them. **Kitesurf Sails** Kitesurf kites have a limited lifespan. After years of enduring strong winds, they lose the tension needed for sailing. These kites are very large, made of ultra-light yet highly resistant material, and come in a wide range of colors. All these traits offer endless design possibilities for this collection. **Tire Inner Tubes** Tire inner tubes travel thousands of kilometers during their first life dedicated to transportation. Once they can no longer be repaired, they lose their usefulness and are discarded in landfills. Designed to withstand tons of weight and high temperatures, these properties make them ideal for creating an indestructible, highly durable collection of bags and accessories. We select the largest tubes from trucks and agricultural vehicles. **Advertising Tarps** Visual communication for all kinds of events is ever-present in our cities. PVC advertising banners hang from streetlamps as the perfect display medium.
